Technical changes to this edition include:
- A main conductor, solid strip, was added for Class II material requirements for ordinary structures exceeding 75 ft in height
- Taller air terminals can be used to increase the spacing on flat or gently sloping roofs;
- Handrails may be used as a substitute for down conductors
- Additional separation between ground rods is required where multiple ground rods are used
- Additional guidance is provided for those instances in which it is necessary to install the grounding conductor directly on bedrock;
- The section entitled “Surge Suppression” was entirely rewritten;
- Titanium strike termination devices may now be used
- The section entitled “Faraday Cage” was replaced with “Metallic Cage”
