Technical changes to this edition include:

  • A main conductor, solid strip, was added for Class II material requirements for ordinary structures exceeding 75 ft in height
  • Taller air terminals can be used to increase the spacing on flat or gently sloping roofs;
  • Handrails may be used as a substitute for down conductors
  • Additional separation between ground rods is required where multiple ground rods are used
  • Additional guidance is provided for those instances in which it is necessary to install the grounding conductor  directly on bedrock;
  • The section entitled “Surge Suppression” was entirely rewritten;
  • Titanium strike termination devices may now be used
  • The section entitled “Faraday Cage” was replaced with “Metallic Cage”
